Overview

Orbit Analytics was designed to be the "source of truth" for high-growth marketing teams. The project involved designing a sophisticated SaaS platform that can aggregate data from hundreds of different sources—including social media, search engines, and internal CRM systems—and present it in a unified, easy-to-digest format. Our focus was on "clutter-free data," where the UI only shows what is relevant to the user's specific role. We spent months conducting user interviews with data scientists and CMOs to understand how they prioritize information during high-stakes decision-making. The project required the creation of a massive library of custom charts and graphs that are not only beautiful but also highly functional and interactive. We prioritized accessibility, ensuring that the platform is usable for individuals with color blindness by using diverse patterns and clear labeling. The final design is a sleek, professional interface that makes the most complex data feel approachable and manageable for any team.

Problem

The primary challenge with Orbit’s original platform was "Information Overload." Users were presented with a wall of numbers and charts the moment they logged in, with no clear indication of which metrics were performing well and which needed attention. This led to "Analysis Paralysis," where managers spent more time trying to understand the data than actually using it to improve their campaigns. The system was also extremely rigid; users couldn't customize their views, meaning a social media manager had to navigate through financial data that was irrelevant to their job. Technical performance was another issue, as the platform would become sluggish when processing large data sets, leading to a poor user experience during quarterly reporting periods. Finally, the UI looked dated and "clunky," which made it difficult for the sales team to position Orbit as a cutting-edge AI solution in a competitive market.

Solutions

We introduced a modular, "Widget-Based" dashboard system that allows every user to drag and drop the metrics they care about into a personalized view. We developed an "AI Highlights" bar at the top of the screen that uses natural language processing to summarize the day's most important trends, such as "Your CPC has dropped by 5% on LinkedIn." To improve the visual hierarchy, we moved to a "Dark Mode" default theme, which reduces eye strain for power users and makes the colorful data visualizations pop. We optimized the data-rendering engine to allow for instantaneous filtering and zooming, even with millions of data points. We also added a "Collaboration Mode" where users can leave comments and tag team members directly on specific charts, turning the dashboard into a communication hub. The redesign resulted in a 50% reduction in time-to-insight for users and helped the company close several multi-million dollar enterprise contracts within the first six months.
